Breakdown advice

Having your car serviced at regular intervals by a reputable mechanic is the best way to keep your vehicle on the road.

However most of the more common causes of breakdowns can be avoided with a little DIY maintenance and some basic checks before setting off on a long journey

One of the most important things is simply to be aware of any changes to the car, these could be, a noise you have not heard before, the headlights seem a little dimmer, it takes a little longer to start the car, the car pulls to one side, absolutely anything.

When you notice something take it to a garage and ask them what they think it may be. Local small garages are great for this because you often get to see the mechanic and they offer advice in conversation without charging for it.

Main dealerships on the other hand are likely to charge because to get to the mechanic you have to go through the receptionist. So if you have a local garage, try using them for some of those small things and they will be far more responsive.
